A Pathology Support Coordinator, or PSC, provides administrative and operational support to pathologists and pathology practices. In this role, you’ll handle various clerical duties to help pathologists focus on patient care.

KEY DUTIES:

  • Check specific cases to ensure accuracy of tissue requests and refer to PAs when necessary, while also accurately entering data.
  • Aid other PSCs in resolving any issues with their cases and provide feedback on the quality of their work.
  • Make sure to place appropriate notes and holds on cases involving non-conforming samples, discrepancies, and missing information, so that the Customer Care team can follow up in a timely manner.
  • Compose professional emails and faxes using correct grammar and spelling to communicate with other departments regarding case escalation or status updates.
  • Conduct outgoing calls to pathology labs to gather specimen information such as confirmation of accession numbers, specimen locations, pathology fax numbers, and addresses.
  • Attend interdepartmental meetings as needed and provide feedback on the current processes and workflow.
  • Monitor errors and metrics for all tissue cases.
  • This position regularly handles PHI in both paper and electronic form and has access to various technologies to do so in order to perform the job.
  • The employee must complete training on HIPAA/PHI privacy, General Policies and Procedure Compliance, and security within their first 30 days of hire.
  • They must also maintain current training on Natera requirements.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A High School Diploma or its equivalent is a necessary qualification.
  • At least two years of experience in the medical industry is required.
  • Previous experience with computers is a must.
  • Previous experience in data entry is also necessary.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Highly proficient in all product types and consistently able to perform accurate and efficient accessioning.
  • Capable of handling most escalations, discrepancies, and holds.
  • Possesses a strong understanding and expertise in all aspects of the Accessioning process and SOPs.
  • Typing speed of minimum 45wpm with exceptional accuracy.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Strong critical thinking abilities and the capacity to exercise sound judgment.
  • Demonstrates a high level of precision and attention to detail in performing required duties.
  • Exhibits a positive attitude and works collaboratively with others.
